NASHVILLE, Tenn.

A firefighter was taken to a hospital after battling a fire at a Nashville home.

The South Harpeth Road house caught fire late Wednesday morning, according to the Nashville Fire Department. The home is a total loss.

The firefighter, whose name wasn't immediately released, was transported to Vanderbilt. He had minor injuries but will recover, the department said.

WELLESLEY, Mass. --

Crews battled a three-alarm fire in Wellesley early Wednesday.

The fire broke out at 41 Kimlo Road in Wellesley early Wednesday.

The homeowner was able to get out OK, but several firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Route 9 east was closed for a time as crews battled the fire.

Sept. 01--BELFAIR -- Backed by the Mason County Fire Marshal, firefighters in Belfair are currently removing about 50 locks from fire hydrants.

The locks were installed about a month ago by the Belfair Water District as a way to curb water theft. But crews with Belfair-based Mason County Fire District 2 -- who've had to cut the locks in responding to recent fire -- felt that they were a serious safety hazard.

Calif. FFs Remove Body From Chimney

A doctor involved in an "on-again, off-again" relationship apparently tried to force her way into her boyfriend's home by sliding down the chimney, police said Tuesday. Her decomposing body was found there three days later.

Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac, 49, first tried to get into the house with a shovel, then climbed a ladder to the roof last Wednesday night, removed the chimney cap and slid feet first down the flue, Bakersfield police Sgt. Mary DeGeare said.

A twin-engine aircraft made an emergency landing Tuesday morning along Interstate 10, avoiding vehicles on the crowded highway, but snarling traffic for hours.

The pilot and a passenger were able to walk away after the 8:15 a.m. crash landing. There was a small leak of fuel from the aircraft, Local 6 news partner WJXT reported.

Rescue teams pulled off a tricky and dangerous rescue. But after they saved a man from a grain silo, he disappeared.

Emergency workers spent more than an hour Monday at the silo on Hayes Denton Road in Columbia. They had to lower a harness into the silo, and with a firefighter in there to help, the man was pulled to safety.

But as soon as he was on the ground, he took off.

Authorities didn't get his name and don't know how he became trapped.

A small electrical fire forced the evacuation of a Phoenix high-rise building that houses the Arizona Department of Revenue on Monday morning.

Phoenix fire officials said about 600 people were in the building at 1600 W. Monroe Street to start the work week when a smoke alarm sounded about 8:22 a.m.

The building was evacuated, and firefighters discovered heavy smoke in the basement level, where they found an electrical panel that had shorted out and triggered a sprinkler activation.

A man was pinned underneath wooden trusses after a wall gave way at a home under construction in Weare on Monday.

Fire officials said Roger Hardy and his son were working on an addition to a home on South Sugar Hill Road when the wall collapsed. Hardy couldn't free himself, but a group of men working for GN Fencing at a project next door heard the loud bang and ran to help.

The men who came to Hardy's aid were also off-duty Manchester firefighters, and they were able to free him.

Fire officials said the town crew working on a water line on Maple Street hit the gas main just after 1:15 p.m. The fire station and two adjacent elderly housing complexes were evacuated.
