New Recruit Class Begins
CGFR just recently started its fall recruit class. The class consists of about 15 new prospective emergency providers for our response area. Classes are running on Tuesday evenings and Sunday noon-8:30. Please stop by station #2 and sign up to help the instructors or just to meet the new people. Please do your part in helping these newest members feel welcome...
Fire Safety Kids Day
Chena Goldstream Fire and Rescue hosted a Fire Prevention Day today October 13th. Many families stopped by to take part in learning about Fire Prevention. Kids were able to practice how to stop, drop and roll along with Crawling low under the smoke.
B-Shift Meeting
There will be a B-Shift meeting at station #2 on Friday October 5th. All B-Shift personnel, and those wishing to swap shifts, are encouraged to attend. Topics to be discussed are Shift activities, shift coverage, and other special topics in relation to CGFR B-Shift. Hope to see you there. Brad
Recruit Class Starting Soon
The Fall Recruit Class will have an organizational meeting on 7:00pm Sunday, October 14th at Station 2. We have openings for both firefighters and medics. Further information about volunteering at CGFR is available here. Station 2 is located at 2.5 mile Chena Ridge Road. Give us a call at 479-5672 or drop by and visit!
Jenny's Last Day
Jenny Rambadt's last day as EMS Coordinator was Sunday, September 30. Her energy and enthusiasm will be missed around the station. I'd like to encourage everyone who knows Jenny to leave a comment (see the comments link just below the article) - share a story or moment you had with her with the rest of us - there are plenty of those floating around!
September Volunteer of the Month
September's Volunteer of the Month is David Girga! David has been with the department nearly a year. During his tenure here, he's worked hard qualifying himself for service. He has become a State of Alaska Fire Fighter I (the toughest 5 weeks he's ever had, he says) and an EMT I. The EMT I class is over 120 hours of classroom instruction, not to mention the studying out side of class. Despite David's classroom endeavors, he still finds time to participate in departmental functions like hose testing and other labor-intensive efforts. Thanks, David, we rely on people like you!
August Volunteer of the Month
Phil Hoffman is the August Volunteer of the Month. He was a CGFR engineer and battalion officer in the 1980's. After an absence of over a decade, he came back to us this spring. Phil's great attitude jazzes up everyone in the station. In the short time he's been back, he has worked hard and is now checked off to drive all the apparatus at Station 2. In addition, he has done a substantial amount of work around the station, contributed his engineering skills to our newly installed dry hydrant system, and participated in our recently completed ISO test. Thanks for all your work, Phil!
