Where did this Thanksgiving Dinner come from?

I just wanted to send a warm THANK YOU to Richard's Mom for again providing an outstanding meal for those at the Fire Station on Thanksgiving Day..........

David Lee Roth Rockstar Now Paramedic

Fomer Van Halen rocker has changed carreers at the age of 49.

He's a paramedic student in New York City.

Here's a NY Post article:

"...T43 Copies That Loud & Clear..."

As an operational note, Station 2 tanker operators should be aware that the headset intercom system delivered in T46 has been swapped over to T43. This should improve the T43 operators' ability to monitor radio traffic without sacrificing the same for the T46 operators. The ambient noise levels inside the cabs of these 2 rigs are orders of magnitude apart, and the headset system is more necesssary in T43.

Base Station Reviews Go Monthly

Last evening at our joint Base Station Review with EVFD, Dr. Carpenter proposed increasing the frequency of BSRs. Hearing no dissention at the time, the idea was accepted!
BSRs are a great forum for learning more of the clinical background of the medical situations we encounter, leading to discussions of what the medics can and should be doing to better address them. Dr. Carpenter hopes to throw in guest speakers from time to time.
Congrats to Chris Seagen & Rusty Hill for being recognized by Dr. Carpenter for their run reports. (Hmmm, Dr. C also wanted to recognize Bill Witte, but since he wasn't there, is this like a tree falling in the woods when no one's around, does it count?! Sure it does!) Congrats to you, too Bill!
Next month's BSR will be hosted by EVFD on Dec 14. Watch the event calendar for details!

Thanksgiving Dinner

For anyone that is interested, Richard's mom will be cooking Thanksgiving Dinner at Station II again this year. Dinner will start at about 3pm.

Calls haven't stopped

My thanks to those who responded to the mobile home fire at Chena Point Road.

The streak of calls hasn't stopped.

More CGFR Volunteers

During the rush of emergency calls, (and they haven't stopped as of yet with three more already today) we also graduated 8 people from the Recruit Class o

Back to back to back to back calls

Well, if it's been a while since you've been on a call, you haven't been listening to your pager! We've logged 7 calls between 10 pm Saturday evening and 8 am Monday morning! My kudos to those of you running on little sleep right now! I haven't seen the rosters yet, but I know there were a handful of the same people scurrying around from call to call (can you say "Battalion 4"? and no - not me!!). Thank you to everyone who pitched in!

Another CGFR alumnus goes pro!

CGFR should probably be more diligent in making note (at the risk of gloating) of when another one of its volunteers breaks the barrier and moves on to a paid position thanks in part to the training and skills provided them by our department. Alas, we've negected to herald such milestones as our own Joy Beth Moser being hired on as the first female firefighter in the City of Fairbanks' Fire Department! Okay, so she also did time with the University of Alaska Fire Department, but to this day she's still a CGFR member, so we get some bragging rights.
But this article is not to catch up on missed opportunities. This article is to congratulate Kris Chandler on being hired by Ester VFD as their station manager!

E42 first on-scene

Captain Davis had a unique and exciting experience Tuesday evening while shuttling E42 back to Station 2 from the Borough maintenance shop. An apparent electric fire developed under the dash of the truck while he was coming off the Parks Hwy. After maneuvering the rig into an open area of convenient parking lot and requesting assistance from the University of Alaska Fire Department (since the parking lot was in their service area), he brought the fire under control with the CO2 extinguisher carried on E42.
